On September 01, 2023 (88 FR 60356), the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) published a Final Rule in the Federal Register (FR) in coordination with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) amending the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMRs) in 49 CFR Part 172 to suspend authorization of liquefied natural gas (LNG) ‘‘Methane, refrigerated liquid’’ transportation in DOT-113C120W9 specification rail tank cars pursuant to a final rule published on July 24, 2020 (85 FR 44994), pending the earlier of either completion of a companion rulemaking evaluating potential modifications to requirements governing rail tank car transportation of LNG, or June 30, 2025. This final rule is effective on October 31, 2023.
