Training Formats
In addition to classroom training, EnergySolutions offers many courses online. The online training can be either computer based training (CBT) or presented in a webinar format. Each method is unique in delivery and benefit to the learner. Here is a summary of the three options.
Classroom Training
With classroom training there is an instructor in the classroom delivering the material which allows for immediate face to face interaction as well as opportunity for dialog between students. This format is effective for all training classes and the best option for advanced courses that are more than one day in length.
Computer Based Training
Utilizing computer based training allows the student to receive the training at their workstation, to fit their schedule and to learn at their own pace. This method is often utilized by students who have at least some familiarity with the material making it a good choice for recertification while also being structured to train a first time student. This format is very effective for fast turnaround situations when time frames do not allow you to wait for scheduled classes. (You need the training now).
Webinar Training
Webinar training combines elements of the other two formats. The training is conducted by an instructor via the internet that can be delivered directly to a workstation or in some circumstances, to a group setting. This format is more interactive than CBT and allows the learner to have greater access to the instructor.

Our Instructors:
James Leonard
James joined EnergySolutions Training Services in 2003, bringing 15 years of experience in the field of health physics to include radiological facility operations, environmental monitoring, waste processing, and radiological worker training. From 1988 to 1998 James served as a radiological controls maintenance manager and trainer for safe plant operations, refueling, material release, and emergency response in the U.S. Naval Nuclear Power Program. From 1998 to 2003 he partnered with Department of Energy (DOE) contractors to improve facility radiation protection programs, implement behavioral based safe (BBS), and provide training on radioactive waste processing and disposal site operations. James has earned his Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering, Radiation Protection Technologist (NRRPT), Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT), and Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP). He is responsible for the development and presentation of EnergySolutions classroom and web-based training transportation and safety courses.
Donnie James
Donnie joined EnergySolutions Training Services in May of 2023. He brings 13 years of commercial Radioactive Material and Radioactive Waste shipping learning and experience and one year of experience as a commercial nuclear instructor. This was preceded by 20 years of training and operating experience in the Naval Nuclear Power Program. Donnie has earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Excelsior and has completed the NanTel Instructor Training Certification. He will be assisting James Leonard with the development and presentation of EnergySolutions classroom and web-based training transportation and safety courses, as well as achieving and maintaining broker qualifications.
